Fabulous French Vintage 1940s Grocer#39;s Rubber Stamp quot;Richard Martin Fruits et Primeurs Agenquot; / Lovely Gift for Someone of Same Name !
This is a wonderful old French wood and rubber stamp block, from a once-upon-a-time grocer in Agen, in the south west of France. With the name quot;Richard Martinquot; and then quot;Fruits et Primeursquot; (fruit and vegetables) and the Phone number and AGEN (Lot et Garonne). Within an oval medallion, this would have been used to stamp crates going to markets and restaurants etc. The wood has a wonderful age old patina (it will be gently waxed before dispatch), and has a time worn metal label on, upon which would have been stamped or embossed the manufacturer of the stamp itself.
A wonderful old piece, it would make a truly unique gift for someone of that same name, or just simply for display or for creating a vintage prop in a grocer#39;s shop.
22cm x 13cm x 9cm (8.6quot; x 5.1quot; X 3.5quot;)
I scour brocantes, vide greniers, auctions, and all sorts of nooks and crannies to find wonderful old French treasures and it is a passion that grows greater by the day. Where I can I give the story behind each item as they too have had a life and are now looking for their own new story ... So I am happy that these long lost items are going to new homes.
